Anti-flu remedy

Singlemade: anti flu remedy

Having a cold is awful. You’re not ill enough to stay home, but you’re hardly able to put in a decent day’s work because of all the snot. Mounds of wet handkerchiefs, teary eyes, sneeze attacks, a scratched up nose, a hoarse (sexy) voice, annoying coughs. Amongst all this dreariness, there is one silver lining: thé anti-flu remedy.

Our mom used to make us this hot tea with honey and lemon whenever we had a cold. Over the years, it’s become a staple in our healing process. It would be unthinkable to go through a cold or a flu without an anti-flu remedy! But no matter how much I love it, it’s only allowed to drink it when you’re ill! 😉

Ps: we know this concoction under the moniker ‘granny’s anti-flu remedy’. When I asked my grandmother where she got the recipe, she denied all knowledge. 🙂 Her actual anti-flu remedy is rum and rock sugar. I guess that’ll kill some bacteria as well! :-p

Instructions
  1. Bring some water to a boil, enough for one mug.
  2. Fill up the mug with hot water and add the cloves.
  3. Squeeze half a lemon over the mug and add at least 2 teaspoons of honey. Stir and taste.
  4. Add some more honey until you’ve found the perfect balance between sour and sweet! 😉
  5. Drink up and get well soon!
Recipe Notes

* Honey, liquid or not, has antibacterial properties, so it’s a proper medication. Don’t substitute it with another sweetener. 😉

** Cloves are awesome! They have anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties and they push out toxins. It holds vitamins C and K, magnesium and calcium. In other words: everything you need to get rid of that cold in no time. You should really have some around all the time, they taste great as well! 😉

Tip: according to the original recipe, you should use real tea, which I never do. The soothing taste and the healing factor come from the honey, the lemon and the cloves. If you do want to use proper tea, use green tea. It’s full of antioxidants and flavonoids, so they’ll definitely help in the healing process! 😉

Carine likes this concoction with or without a nice shot of brown rum (tip)! Carine confirms you don’t have to be ill to enjoy this remedy. It’s great after a long winter’s walk!

Caroline didn’t have much to say: delicious and healthy! Being an apothecary, she did propose to pick a different callsign: Vitamin-C Booster or Immunity Booster. I can’t choose! 😉
