Hangover fixer elixir

Singlemade: hangover fixer elixer

It’s almost New Year’s Eve! That means toasting to the new year and maybe going a bit overboard with the drinks. The odds are that you’ll wake up on the 1st of January with a bit of nausea, a headache and a sensitivity to light… In other words: you’re hungover!

I did some research on the internet and I’ve designed a cocktail with anti-hangover ingredients! One of my Hangover Fixer Elixirs will have you fresh as a daisy, ready to face the new year!

Instructions
  1. Peel the banana and break it into chunks over a blender or a cup.
  2. Grate a thumb’s length of ginger over the banana.
  3. Add the juice of half a lemon, a pinch of salt and the coconut water.
  4. Blend until even.
  5. Drink and take a nap ;-).
Recipe Notes

**Good to know: coconut water is usually found in the bio-shop or in Chinatown. But these days it’s gaining popularity, so it’s found more and more in regular supermarkets. Tip: look for it in the refrigerated section!

Tips:

  • Coconut water is perfect to rehydrate and to restore the minerals in your body.

  • Ginger helps with nausea.

  • The banana’s fructose yields instant energy. Bananas also hold a lot of kalium, a mineral that is drained through overconsumption of alcohol.

  • The salt helps restore your sodium and mineral levels (but it’s great to bring out the taste as well! ;-))

  • Lemon is filled with vitamin C, but here it’s added mainly for taste! 😉

Tip: if you can handle solid food, add some oat flakes. They energize you and contain vitamin B, calcium and iron, and neutralise the acid build up in your body.

An other recommendation is toast & honey. Instant energy without messing up your stomach (even more).

Stephanie made this when she wasn’t hungover. She loved it! She used coconut milk instead of coconut water, which made it extra creamy. Yum! And to her it’s not a hangover cure, it’s a biking drink, full of energy!
