Mocha-Nutella porridge

Singlemade: mocha Nutella oats

Today, October 1st 2017, is International Coffee Day! All across the globe events are being held to honour this black concoction and of course Singlemade does its part!

I’m no barista, so I can’t educate you on water temperature, grinding, milk foam, pressure and all the things that come together to make a great cup of coffee.

That’s why we’re taking a different approach. Did you make too much coffee? Use what’s left over to make this gem of a recipe!

I like drinking coffee, but I’m not that big a fan of coffee flavoured desserts. But if you throw coffee, oats and Nutella together… pure heaven! This mocha-Nutella-porridge is great for breakfast or dessert, hot or cold and it goes great with… a cup of coffee! :-p

Happy International Coffee Day!

Instructions
  1. Add all of the ingredients to a saucepan over high heat.
  2. Stir until it boils and keep at it for about half a minute more.
  3. Turn down the heat slightly if it sticks to the bottom.
  4. Done! Scoop into a cup and eat it straight away. Or let it cool first, as you please!
Recipe Notes

* Of course you can use any other chocolate/hazelnut spread, but I can’t guarantee its taste then! 🙂

Tip: The coffee taste isn’t very strong in this recipe. If you want to get rid of it anyway, replace the coffee by milk or water.

Tip: You really can’t go without salt in this recipe!

Valerie has porridge for breakfast everyday and this recipe stirred things up for a change. It’s not her favourite combination of flavours, but it’s certainly not bad! 50 gr of oats was too much for her though, so only added 25 gr (which she still couldn’t finish). And salt is essential indeed!

As opposed to Valerie, my husband loves it. So much so even that he took to whipping up a bowl when I was too busy to make him one! And it was even better than when I make it! He also thinks a pinch of salt really brings out the best of the dish.
