The amazing summer has caused Sofie’s garden to bulk with figs. Hungry for inspiration, Sofie sent me an email, asking for original fig recipes. Nothing’s too much trouble when it comes to my loyal fans, so as soon as I was able to get my hands on some figs (I don’t have my own garden, unfortunately), I got to work. There are a lot of recipes to be found on Pinterest, but they all basically do the same: either you make a sweet fig pie or marmalade, or you bake figs with goat cheese. It’s all very good, but I wanted to do something else. In a creative mood, I threw together this savoury fig strudel. I have to confess I pleasantly surprised myself with the result, so pleasantly I immediately jotted down the recipe!
I use curcuma and cumin as a seasoning and I know they might not be standard issue in a single’s cupboard. Even though I strongly recommend using this Moroccan combination (or any other pre-blended Moroccan seasoning mix), you can give it a French twist by using Herbes de Provence. In other words: take it in every way you want!
